Greetings.
TL;DR: It seems my BitWig Indexing is ... broken. The list of files usually (but not always) fails to show what's on-disk. They're... just not there. They *sometimes* appear, but not usually. Is there a way to perhaps completely reset this and let it re-build the index?
Are there potential complications that I should be avoiding? (e.g.: I saw mention, as I was searching for other posts with this problem, about Windows Antivirus perhaps causing problems, but the post was very old and not clear.)
Are there certain settings I can tweak to improve this?
LONG version:
JFHC, as I write this I switch back to BitWig and now the browser looks exactly the way I expect it to. [sigh] But it keeps mucking up every few minutes, so let me ask:
I see several sections to the Browser Panel, which for me (and I believe is the default) is on the right. The very lowest section is the info for the currently-highlighted item, and that's fine. The top sections all serve as filters, more or less, and let's just assume that I have them all cleared, so I am looking at "everything," (but this problem ALSO applies to filtered views).
At the moment, I do have one rather non-standard feature applied: I have changed the sort order in the browser to "By Date." I believe this problem persists when that is set to the default (Kind/Name).
...Let me move to a similar problem that occurs in another part of BitWig, because I am reasonably sure they are the same problem:
I have a synth open. ...Let's say... Omnisphere. I want to load a BitWig Preset for it. I click on the "folder" icon in the upper-left corner of the Device view in the Device Panel, at the bottom of the screen. I'm shown a dialogue box, where I can choose a preset to load.
It's blank. No presets are there. I see the filters on the left, with Omnisphere selected, and an (empty) info panel on the right, but no presets at all in the middle. The center area is blank.
Again, SUPER helpfully: this is NOT a problem right now, but 90% of the time, this is what happens. Right now, everything is copacetic. Because of course it is! I'm trying to describe the problem to someone! Thanks, Murphy. ...But, really, this is the problem: presets (and plugins; I haven't described it fully, but this also happens to the plugins themselves in the browser) jump in and out of existence in the browser. It's like the Index is nuking and rebuilding itself every few minutes. ...but not always completely--sometimes I can see files from a few days ago, but not the today or yesterday. Sometimes I can only see files from months ago. Sometimes nothing at all. Sometimes (like right now), I see everything.
WHAT I HAVE TRIED:
I checked the disk, of course. The files are, in fact, there. Also, no: this is not a slow disk problem. I'm running all of these files on an M.2 drive. Locally.
I have Google Drive, and Google Drive was pointing at BitWig files. It was nice to have them backed up. ...but I thought this could be causing the problem, so I turned that off. After a full reboot, that didn't help, though. Still getting the problem.
I tried turning off all of the "refresh" buttons (they look like looping arrows) in the Settings > Locations dialogue. I thought that perhaps it was just constantly reindexing things, and maybe it was removing the entire database when it was doing that, or something similarly problematic. But I did that a few hours ago, now, and then I ran a "Reindex All Locations" from the context menu in the Browser Panel. ...Hey, maybe that just NOW finished (again, this is about two hours ago) and that's why I can suddenly see files, but: that seems coincidental. I promise that if the problem goes away, I will remove this post!) Honestly, though: this had better not be the issue. It should NOT be removing everything from the dB in order to reindex NEW files. That would be "broken," IMO. Still...
Anyway, I'm happy to try just about anything here, because this is a super-frustrating problem and I am finding it very difficult to continue, ignoring it. It makes BW feel very "broken" overall, which makes me sad.
I'm currently using version 5.0.11 and, yes, I know that's not "current." I did let my support-thingie lapse, not too long ago, because, yeah, I am one of those people who doesn't think I should have to subscribe to Bitwig, and I will buy an update when I legitimately want some new features. ...but this post is not for me to bitch about BW's sales plan. I'm just saying: I don't have official support at the moment, and this has (of course) only been a problem for me some time AFTER letting it lapse. [sigh again] I've been using BitWig for ... uhhh... many years now, I can't even remember how long. It's been my main DAW since Very Early Days. ...I am not planning on rage-quitting because of this problem, but ... boy: I sure would love to solve it, because, as I said, this just plain feels BROKEN.![Sad :(]()

The problem (which I have been having more often than not for a few weeks now) is that the preset I just saved isn't there in the list. In fact, nothing from the past few DAYS is on the list. Sometimes, there's only a few hundred items shown in the panel. Sometimes there's nothing at all.Quick aside to explain what I'm doing: I am curating my patches. I'm going through each synth I own and saving "Bitwig Presets" for the patches that I like and plan to use. Let's say I just saved a patch and fat-fingered the name, and now I want to rename the file. Thus, I want to be able to see where I am, using a "by date" sort order.
