In 2023 I had to switch to a new computer (a Mac studio M2 ultra max) and reinstall SoundMorph's Dust.
When trying to register the plugin, most of the time it will just say "contacting server" and that's the end of the road.
I kept trying, and sometimes it would accept the registration, but after I restarted Logic X or when I load a no project "Dust" is back in demo mode.
The first time I contacted SoundMorph was in August 2023. I contacted them several times over the past 5 months. One time I received a response, asking if I could try it again and promising "We’ll get you back in action as soon as possible!"
The problem persists and I never heard back from them. (I have to admit: after several emails, I was not really polite anymore because I find this really frustrating).
Why this post?
1) Maybe one of you guys can help to solve the problem (which in my opinion is the support's task)
2) I'd like to express my frustration with copy-protection (developers...I hope you are reading!).
Too often copy-protection is not implemented smoothly and is instead a hassle (or "punishment") for paying customers.
...and this makes me quite angry. I spend a MASSIVE amount of money every year in music software, while folks that use a cracked version not only save the money but do have a plugin that is actually WORKING (while in some cases I don't)
Especially call&response is a method where you are completely at the mercy of the company that developed and/or is selling the plugin. And sometimes they let down customers (like SoundMorph in this case ).
Any thoughts?
Also, I would be grateful for any advice on how to solve my registration problem with "Dust".
my specs: Dust (most recent version, Mac Studion M2 Ultra Max, OSX 13.4)
The problem with "Dust" seems not depend on the host application (persists across several host applications that I tried)
Best,
Ray
